Kenny Roberts to retire

After nearly five decades with the City of Barnesville, Kenny Roberts is retiring. Roberts, who began his career in 1970 in the electrical department as a ground man, has been city manager since 1993. He plans to work through the first of the year with an effective retirement date of Feb. 1, 2018. In the electrical department, Roberts advanced to lineman and then electrical superintendent. He also managed zoning, code enforcement and planning. In the early 1990s, he became director of utilities and public works. ”I want to publicly thank Kenny for his outstanding service to our city and especially for his friendship, expressed in so many ways over the years and particularly during my service as Mayor. Kenny’s knowledge and leadership will be sorely missed by all of us but after almost five decades of fine service to our community, we understand his desire to spend more time with his family. We are particularly fortunate that Kenny has agreed to be available for consultation on several issues that he has been working on and of which he has specific knowledge. On behalf of the city council, we want Kenny to know that he has our warmest and best wishes in his retirement,” mayor Peter Banks said.
