Kenyan items included in Oct. 7 silent auction

Lamar Arts’ silent auction fundraiser is set for Thursday, Oct. 7, 7-9 p.m., at the home of Charles and Jean Dukes, 530 Thomaston St., Barnesville. Original artwork will include wood turnings, paintings, photographs, pottery and jewelry. Rest and recreation opportunities will range from mountain cabins to the Homestead in Hot Springs. Auction goers may elect to learn French, throw a party or just enjoy a lively social evening at the home of Charles and Jean Dukes. To donate auction items contact Pattie Powers, 404-402-0964 or Jean Dukes, 770-401-6898. Kenyan items will also be included in the auction. Jean and Charles Dukes receive a mailing from their daughter Carolyn who is currently deployed to Nairobi, Kenya. Carolyn, a second generation supporter of Lamar Arts, sent a Masai ceremonial shield and spear and an antique fish basket to be offered at Lamar Arts Silent Auction and Cocktail Party. Last year she was deployed to Iraq and arrived home just in time to attend the Silent Auction. She had purchased a colorful porcelain platter and bowl set that was a popular auction item. Other unique items will be available as well as music, heavy hors d’oeuvres and an opportunity to support community artists and your local arts gallery. For tickets to the auction and cocktail party, contact a Lamar Arts board member, a Silent Auction volunteer or call 770-358-1639.
