Lady Highlanders open season Friday

The Gordon College Lady Highlanders softball team will open its spring season at home Friday with a doubleheader against USC-Sumter. The game starts at 2 p.m. at the Gordon College Athletic Complex. Coach Ally Hattermann says the team has a tough schedule but a lot of talent this year. Freshman pitcher Jenni-Lynne Smith who played at Spalding High School joined the team this year as did Brandy Clark, freshman third base and short stop from Pike County. Four key players are returning this year, Amanda Badertscher, third base; Amanda Jones, center field; Denise Van Rijst, catcher and Jessica Sowell, first base. Badertscher batted .379 in 2007 and earned 48 RBIs. The Lady Highlanders return home on Friday, Feb. 13 for a doubleheader against Middle Georgia College. Game one begins at 2 p.m.
