Lady Highlanders win; Highlanders swept

The Gordon College softball team kept their hopes for postseason play with a doubleheader sweep of South Georgia in Douglas Saturday. The Lady Highlanders, whose roster has been depleted by season ending injuries to several players, clawed past the Lady Tigers 2-1 in game one before exploding for a 10-1 victory in the nightcap. Gordon, now 22-20 for the season, faces two important conference doubleheaders this week as they host Georgia Military Thursday before wrapping up the regular season against Middle Georgia Saturday. The men’s baseball fate was not as good over the weekend as the Highlanders traveled to Cochran two games behind Region XVII leading Middle Georgia in hopes of taking at least two games and cutting the Warriors lead to one game with one weekend series to play. instead Gordon was swept by Middle Georgia who clinched first place in conference regular season play while the Highlanders fell into a fourth place tie with Georgia Perimeter. The Highlanders, 30-19 overall and 10-8 in conference play, host Andrew College, winless in Region XVII, for a three game series beginning Friday to close out their regular season home schedule.
