Lamar County will host Pike County today in Region 4AA softball action at the Trojan Athletic Complex. Game time is 5:30 p.m. The Lady Trojans are 6-6 for the year after going 4-2 in the Lady Eagle Invitational Tournament in Roberta over the weekend.Lamar opened the tournament with a 10-1 loss to tourney champion Mary Persons then lost to tournament runners-up Rutland 5-3.The Lady Trojans bounced back to beat tourney host Crawford County 7-4, Monticello 9-8 and Howard 12-8 before beating the Lady Eagles again 10-2 in the consolation game to bring home third place in the six team tournament.Lamar was led offensively by McKay Hickman who had seven hits in the tournament including five doubles. The sophomore outfielder drove home five runs, scored six and stole three bases.Junior shortstop Jesse McDaniel had six singles and a pair of doubles with five runs scored, five RBI and two stolen bases. Sophomore outfielder August Groover had seven base hits including a double as she scored six times, drove home a pair of runs and stole four bases.Junior first baseman Tyler Burnette and sophomore pitcher Tamara Watts added six singles each for the Lady Trojans in the tournament.Today’s opponent, the Lady Pirates, come to town with a record of 3-5 including a 1-0 region record. Lamar is also 1-0 in Region 4AA.
