Lady Trojans host play-in series

The Lamar County Lady Trojans will host Monticello for a best-of-three region tournament play-in series beginning with a double header Thursday at the Trojan Athletic Complex on the middle school campus. Lamar finishes the regular season today in Thomaston against Upson-Lee and are 12-10 of the year going into the game. Monticello is 14-9-1. Both teams finished Region 4-AA play at 5-3 but the Lady Trojans got the fourth seed and home field advantage for the play-in series by beating the Lady Hurricanes in 4-AA play. Monticello beat Lamar last Saturday in a non-region game at the Deer Capitol Classic tournament in Monticello. If the two teams split Thursday’s twinbill, the third and deciding game would be played Friday here. The winner of the series moves on to meet top seeded Pike County in the region tourney semi-finals in Zebulon and earns a berth in the state tournament against an opponent from Region 3-AA. The Lady Trojans will also observe Senior Day today and recognize its two senior players, Tyler Burnette and Jesse McDaniel, who have played together and against each other since they were four years old. Senior Day was originally scheduled for last week when Lamar was to meet Northeast Macon but the Lady Raiders forfeited the game due to lack of players.
