Lady Trojans outscored region opponents 55-0

By Walter Geiger The LC Lady Trojans topped Putnam County 3-0 April 12 in Eatonton to clinch their third straight Region 4AA title. Over the course of the season, Coach Wayne Calvert’s squad outscored region opponents 55-0. ’I don’t know of any sports team in LC school history that has shut out the entire region for an entire season. Tamara Nale, a senior defender, has been the anchor of our defense all season. They have taken a lot of pride in their job on the field and it has paid off’ coach Calvert said. Katie Jo Daniel had two goals for LC in the clincher. Rachel Patterson got the third score on a beautiful shot off a rebound in the box. The Lady Trojans closed out regular season play Friday night at Trojan Field with senior night at which senior players and managers were recognized. The Class of 2016 went out in style with a 7-1 rout of Westside Macon. Daniel had four goals while Patterson added two. Tomiya Alford had one goal for LC. As the #1 seed, the Lady Trojans (11-4, 8-0) will host at least two playoff games. They will face the #4 seed from Region 1AA on Friday, April 29. At present, the most likely opponent is Brooks County (0-9, 0-4). Apparently only four girls teams compete in soccer in that region. ’It has been a fun ride for the team this season and we are looking forward to the playoffs,’ Calvert concluded.
