Lady Trojans peaking at the right time?

By Ken K. Green Four Lady Trojans scored in double figures, two of them notching double-doubles, in a thrilling three overtime win over Monticello here Saturday night. Unfortunately, the Lamar County girls basketball team dropped games to Taylor County and Northeast Macon earlier in the week. Tamara Watts led Lamar in the 70-63 win over Monticello with 17 points, three steals and two assists. The Lady Trojans trailed by two at the half and found themselves down by nine after three quarters before rallying to tie the score at 44-44 at the end of regulation. After a defensive battle in the first extra period in which both teams scored only two points, the Lady Trojans and Lady Hurricanes scored 10 points each in the second overtime to force a third in which Lamar pulled away for the win. A’Ja Johnson scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds, made two steals and had eight assists. Alexandria World and Alissa Hicks posted double-doubles with 10 points and 10 rebounds along with four steals each. Against Taylor County the Lady Trojans led by five at the half but the Lady Vikings went on a 43-18 tear in the second half for a 58-38 win. Johnson led Lamar with 19 points, three assists and six rebounds. Hicks had five points and eight boards. The Lady Trojans trailed Northeast Macon by 11 at the half but played the Lady Raiders even in the second for a 39-29 loss. Johnson scored eight points and had three assists for Lamar. World and Tamia Jones scored six points each. Hicks had seven rebounds. Lamar, now 8-10 overall and 5-5 in Region 4-AA, hosted Putnam County Tuesday, travels to Bleckley County Friday and hosts Jackson for Senior Night Saturday.
