The Lamar Lady Trojans won both their matches last week, including a big non-region win over previously undefeated Peach County at Trojan Field March 22.’It was a great game between two evenly matched teams. Peach entered the game with a record of 9-0-1, including wins over strong teams like Mount De Sales. They had only given up three goals all season so we knew the game would be close and it would come down to a handful of key plays,’ LC coach Wayne Calvert said. The visitors, also the Lady Trojans, controlled possession early and blew one scoring chance on a missed PK that hit the goal post. With about 10 minutes left in the first half, senior scoring machine Katie Jo Daniel broke loose and scored for LC to make it 1-0.The second half was another pitched battle.LC keeper Ashley Haddock repeatedly denied shots. LC scored after crowding the box but the goal was denied by the officials. A few minutes later, freshman Hailey Hadsell scored on a long shot from the right side to make it 2-0. Lamar played superb defense, giving up one goal with just over seven minutes left in the game but held on for the 2-1 win. Lamar took on region foe Bleckley County March 24 in another match played in the friendly confines of Trojan Field and routed the Lady Royals 10-0. Hadsell started the match on fire, scoring four quick goals for LC.Daniel finished with five goals while Rachel Patterson had one.Lamar is now 8-3 overall, 6-0 in region play and atop the region standings. They host Macon County in a region match tonight and travel to Upson-Lee Friday. First touch for both games will be 5:30 p.m.
