Laid To Rest

Jimmie (Buzz) Burousas Jr., a Barnesville native, was apparently shot and killed in the driveway of his Concord home in Pike County July 1. Burousas was the son of former Lamar County chief magistrate Jimmie Burousas Sr. and his wife, Bobbie. No arrests in the case had been made at presstime Monday. Pike sheriff Jimmy Thomas reported his office received a call regarding the incident at 4:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Burousas, 60, dead in his vehicle in the driveway. Initial reports were he was shot although the official report from the state crime lab on the cause of his death has not yet been received by local authorities. In the yard of the home at the other end of the long drive, responding deputies found his wife, Teresa Mangham Burousas. Initial reports were she had been beaten with a tire iron and hammer. She was airlifted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta but released just hours later and was able to attend the funeral of her husband July 5. Teresa Burousas is the daughter of Pike County commission chairman Doug Mangham. Acting on information received from Mrs. Burousas, sheriff Thomas issued a lookout for two suspects. Major David Neal of the Pike sheriff’s department confirmed Monday that investigators are still looking for two men who may have left the Burousas home in a late 90s model Pontiac TransAm.
