Lamar AJROTC teams advance

‘Lamar has done it again. All Lamar County drill teams have made it to state competitions,’ said AROTC S-5 Assistant Sgt. Dakotta Strickland. ‘This, however, is not the end of hard work and fierce training.’ Instead of just competing with schools from the district, Lamar County AJROTC drill teams went up against teams from all districts that placed first through third place in their Area competitions. ‘The stakes are higher, with top teams all battling for the first place position and the chance to make it to Nationals – the biggest and fiercest competition in the trio,’ said Sgt. Strickland. ‘Lamar did exceptionally well, with placements in the top three for all teams we brought to the Area competition.’ At the Area Competition, Lamar County’s Female Color Guard placed first, the Male Color Guard placed second, the Exhibition Armed Squad came in second, the Female Regulation Unarmed Squad came in third, and the Male Regulation Unarmed Squad also placed third. The second round of state competitions was held at Griffin High School March 21. Lamar sent the Male Color Guard, Female Color Guard, Male Regulation Unarmed Squad, Female Regulation Unarmed Squad, Exhibition Armed Squard and Dual Armed Exhibition to the state competition. ’Overall, this drill season was a great success with all six teams qualifying for the state final meet,’ said Senior Army instructor Paul Stinson. ‘All teams performed well.”
