Lamar Arts hosting Kid’s Camp

Lamar Arts will be accepting registrations for its Kids’ Camp to be held June 4-15. Each week of camp will feature different projects, evenly split between visual and theatre arts. There will be projects of interest for campers ages 6-18. Older high school students will work on special projects geared to a higher grade level. Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. A snack will be served but no lunch. Children may sign up for one week or two. Registration forms are available at Lamar Arts Gallery at The Depot, Goggans Florist, Slices Pizza and will be available on the upcoming Lamar Arts Web site. Registration will be cut off at 40 children per week, so parents are urged to get registrations in early because slots are filling up rapidly. The cost is $40 per week per child. Two weeks will cost $80 per child. ’We’ve been able to keep the cost of Kids’ Camp at this same price because of the generous sponsorship of many community businesses and organizations, and the public’s participation in Lamar Arts Derby Day Fund Raiser,’ said administrator Eleanor Stecker. ’We’re also looking for volunteers for both sessions to help us with snacks and other jobs.’ For information call Lamar Arts at 770-358-5888 and leave a message. Lamar Arts members will call you back. This year Kids’ Camp will be directed by Scott Votaw. He teaches film, video and theatre arts at Griffin High School. This will be his first year as director of Lamar Arts Kids’ Camp. Associate director is Bob Detamore. He teaches ceramics and print-making at Gordon College and operates a studio in Barnesville where he produces award-winning artwork. This will be his fourth year teaching at Lamar Arts Kids’ Camp. Stecker is joined as an administrator by Carol Phillips and Sherry Truby.
