Items for the Lamar Arts Silent Auction are being received for display at the home of Charles and Jean Dukes,at 530 Thomaston St. The home, built in 1914 by Buggy Baron Walter B. Smith, is the site of the Oct. 1 fundraiser.Monies from this annual event, along with membership dues, support the many activities of this volunteer organization such as the summer art camp for youth. Members hope the auction will raise funds to supplement the cost of conducting a camp in 2010.The Silent Auction will be from 7-9 p.m. Tickets may be purchase at the door or in advance from the chamber of commerce, Main Street Haberdashery or Heritage House. Tickets are $25 per person and include a light buffet and bar as well as bid opportunities on a variety of items and services. Music for the event will be a light-hearted blend of folk and bluegrass provided by The Brothers.Other Lamar Arts efforts supported by Silent Auction proceeds include maintaining the historic Barnesville Depot as a community art gallery, hosting about six original exhibitions a year and book signings, performances and related activities.
