Lamar Co. Trojans Baseball Report

The Trojans made the trip down to Macon on Thursday afternoon to do battle with the Region 4-AA leader, Howard Huskies. Unfortunately, the visiting team came out on the short end of a 4-2 score. The Trojans, for the 2nd consecutive day, did not play well defensively, as they committed 6-errors on the evening. There was 5-bobbles on ground balls to the infield, and 1 misplayed ball in the outfield. In spite of those miscues, the Trojans were never out of the game, and possibly could have pulled it out had the hits not gone straight at the Howard players in a lot of instances. Freshman Aaron Westbury started his first varsity game on the mound for the Trojans and scattered 7-hits over 7-innings, struck out 1-batter, and issued 1-base on balls in the contest to take the loss. Only 1 of the 4 runs that Howard scored were earned however, as the defensive miscues and silent bats played a large role in the final outcome of the game. Westbury showed a lot of poise for a freshman and fielded his position well in the game. Howard countered with Sophomore Stewart Bowers, who pitched an outstanding game for the Huskies in his own right. Bowers , also, yielded 7-hits on the night to the Trojans, but was able to do so for the most part, when the Trojans didn’t have runners on-base, or in scoring-position. Bowers, adeptly, hit his spots and mixed his pitches well in keeping the Trojan hitters off-balance all night. Also, his teammates played great defense behind him, as they committed no-errors in the game. Bowers had a no-hitter going for 3-innings before Trojans Senior Blane Parker broke it up, when he lined a single over the shortstops head to left field. Up until that point in the game, no Trojan hitter had reached base. The Trojans manged to score 1-run in the top of the 6th inning on a bunt single that scored Keaton Brown from 3rd base, who had doubled earlier in the inning, and moved to 3rd on a stolen base to make the score 4-1. Senior Calvin Adams reached base in the top of the 7th on a fielder’s choice, and then moved to 2nd on a passed ball by the Howard Catcher. A couple of batters later — hot-hitting, as of late — Devin Couch lined a double to left field to score Adams from 2nd for the final run of the game for the Trojans. Offensively, Blane Parker was the only Trojan to register more than one hit on the night, as he finished with 2-singles. Calvin Adams and Keaton Brown, also, added doubles for the Trojans in the contest. The Trojans will resume action at home on Aldora Field with a Region 5-AA JV-&-Varsity twin bill on Friday, 4/10, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Due to all of the rescheduled games due to the recent rainy weather, this will be the 4th game in 4-consecutive days for the Trojans. Howard 4-7-0 Lamar co. 2-7-6
