Deputies from the LCSO interstate drug interdiction team arrested a California man and seized 80 kilograms on crystal meth following a traffic stop on I-75 Jan. 31, according to sheriff Brad White.Deputies observed a grey sedan with California plates in the right lane. It passed two patrol vehicles with blue lights flashing where officers were out assisting with a broken down bus and did not pull over though the driver had plenty of room to do so. They stopped the car.The driver, 22-year-old Miguel Angel Sanchez Alvarez, claimed to be a singer. A computer check revealed he had a history of drug violations. Deputies detected the odor of marijuana and a K-9 alerted on the vehicle. A search revealed 10 gallon bags full of meth. Wrapped bundles of meth were found under a seat and in the trunk. Marijuana was also found as was a list of persons to whom the meth was to be distributed and how much they owed for it. Sanchez Alvarez, who is from Ceres, California, remains in the Lamar jail charged with trafficking in meth.For much more on this story, see the 2.12.19 print edition of The Herald Gazette.
