Lamar deputy badly hurt in crash

A Lamar sheriff’s deputy was seriously injured after wrecking her patrol car while on the way to a domestic dispute early Wednesday morning. Deputy Jeannie Devane was taken by ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center after the 12:30 a.m. crash. Medical evacuation helicopters were grounded due to low ceilings and visibility. UPDATE: Devane was listed in guarded condition at 8 a.m. Wednesday. UPDATE 2: Devane is reported to be “very banged up” and has one broken vertebrae in her lower back but her doctors are optimistic. Devane was northbound on old Hwy. 41 just south of Morgan Dairy Road when she lost control of her patrol car in a curve, went off the road and clipped a tree. An heroic passerby pulled her from the car and called for help on her radio. The patrol car caught fire and is a total loss. Lamar firefighters extinguished the blaze. Deputy Devane is the daughter of Barnesville city councilman Neal Devane. The family has been notified and they are on the way to the hospital. Major Brad White of the LCSO is on the scene as are Mike Maynard of the Georgia State Patrol and multiple deputies from both Lamar and Spalding counties. More on this story as it develops…
