By Ken. K Green Lamar County plays its home opener this week hosting the AAAA Eagle’s Landing High School Golden Eagles of McDonough. When and Where: Friday September 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Trojan Field Tickets: All tickets $7 at the gate. Unlimited advanced tickets for the general public for $7 available at Slice’s on Main Street through one o’clock Friday. Advanced discounted tickets for Lamar County School System students, faculty and staff (one per person) only for $5 available at all four schools through one o’clock Friday. Weather: Partly sunny with a 30% chance of isolated thundershowers and temperatures aound 80 degrees at kick-off. Mostly clear skies with temperatures in the upper 70s at games end. ADVISORY: 100% chance of a raging blue thunderstorm expected to strike Trojan Field at 7:30 p.m. Last week: The Trojans (0-0-1) got a last second field goal to tie Spalding 3-3. The Golden Eagles (0-1) blew a late lead and lost to Ola 38-30 in McDonough. Series: This is the first meeting between the two schools. Prediction: calls Lamar a 23 point favorite. Rankings: The Trojans are ranked #6 in the state by both the Associated Press and MaxPreps, #9 by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and #18 by the Maxwell Ratings service. Eagle’s Landing is unranked by the AP and the AJC and 61st by MaxPreps and 65th by Maxwell Ratings in Class AAAA. Injury report: Lamar continues to be plagued by a rash of minor injuries that kept players sidelined last week. All injured players will be re-evaluated and their playing status determined by game time.
