Lamar hosts Rabun Co. tonight at 6 p.m.

The Lamar County Trojans will host Rabun County in the first round of the GHSA Class AA state basketball tournament tonight. Lamar County has never hosted a state tourney game and has not been seeded this high entering a tourney since the 1970s and the reign of Coach Oscar Wimberly. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. The Trojans (16-11) are the second seed from Region 5AA. Rabun’s Wildcats are 19-8 and the third seed from Region 8AA. The Cats are coached by Jeff Page and led by sophomore strong guard Tanner Plemmons. Plemmons is one of the top rated players in Georgia in the Class of 2012. He is averaging about 30 ppg and hung 48 on Dawson County Tuesday night in the 8AA consolation game. Tickets for tonight’s game are $7. Only GHSA and media passes will be accepted. No local passes can be used for admission.
