Lamar County’s unemployment was 12.4% in July, down from 13.3% in June. It topped out at 15.6% in July 2009.Lamar’s work force numbered 7,737 people in July, with 6,777 working and 960 seeking jobs. In June the numbers were 7,791 total people, 6,751 working and 1,040 seeking work. Joblessness in July 2009 was based on 8,225 people in the job market, 6,943 working and 1,282 seeking work.Initial unemployment claims for Lamar in July totaled 122, compared to 144 in June and 244 in July 2009.In the Three Rivers Region, the highest joblessness was found in Lamar and Heard counties at 12.4%, followed by Meriwether County at 12.2%. Spalding was at 12%; Upson, 11.9%; Troup, 11.8%; Butts, 11.3% and Carroll, 10.9%.
