According to statistics compiled in 2013, Lamar and Pike counties are now running neck and neck in the total population rankings. Lamar is the 96th in the ranking of the state’s 159 counties with a population of 17,959 while Pike is ranked 97th with 17,796 people counted within its borders.Pike has grown at a faster rate since 2000 when it was home to 13,688 citizens. At that point, Lamar had a population count of 15,912.Both counties, however, have lost population since the 2010 census when Lamar was home to 18,317 residents and Pike had 17,869.
