This year’s SAT scores show Lamar County students remained below state averages. However, while Georgia’s scores continued to plummet Lamar’s are going up.”The SAT scores are regarded as one of the best measures of a student’s readiness to begin college on a positive note ‘“ and be successful,” said superintendent Dr. Bill Truby. “Here in Lamar County, we saw a significant increase in our average over 2008.I hope this is a trend as we aim to rise to at least the state average in the near future ‘“ and beyond that in the long term.”Right now Lamar is 88 points below that standard, compared with 114 points short last year. That is a 23% gain on the Georgia average.”If that trend continues, it’s time to get excited,” Dr. Truby said.
