LC 3 shine in Tech win over UGA

By Walter Geiger The LC 3, twins Lance and Lawrence Austin and Qua Searcy, played key roles in Georgia Tech’s big win over Georgia Saturday in Sanford Stadium in Athens. Searcy scored the winning touchdown on a six-yard run with 30 seconds left. Searcy flew through the air for the final three yards of the game winner. The play saw Searcy take a pitch with plans to throw back to quarterback Justin Thomas but Thomas was well covered. ‘It was a split second decision. I saw five defenders go with him. Nobody was in the middle,’ Searcy said after his heroics. An A back, Searcy finished with 40 yards on eight carries and the one score. He also had one reception for 39 yards and one tackle on special teams. Lance Austin had a key interception on a tipped ball in the fourth period. He also added five solo tackles and one assist. Lawrence Austin had four solo stops and two assists. The three, all 2014 grads of Lamar County, led the Trojans to the most successful four-year run in school history that culminated in a narrow loss in the state title game in 2013 that closed out a 14-1 season.
