LC breaks in gym with big volleyball wins

The LC volleyball teams christened the new high school gym Sept. 26 with two big wins. The JV opened the evening with a two-set victory of Temple. Players of the game were Macy Smith, Valerie Sullivan and Kaniyah Akins. The varsity came back after losing the first sets to win the final two in a hard-fought match. Players of the game were Katelyn Rogers and Gerniya Flewellen. The regular season ends this week with Central and Greenville here for matches Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. LC hopes to qualify for the region tourney which starts Saturday at Callaway. Three standout female LC athletes and honor graduates were leading teams at the opening of the new gym. Volleyball coach Princess Banks starred in basketball and track and graduated from Clemson and the University of Phoenix. JV volleyball coach Amanda Ogletree also played basketball and ran track and was a member of the band. She is a graduate of Armstrong State. Dontauneia Traylor was a basketball standout and a majorette at LC and is a graduate of Georgia Southern and Troy University. Traylor was coaching cheerleaders at the gym opening. All three ladies are veterans, having coached multiple sports in the past.
