The Lamar County Lady Trojans travel to Eastman today to take on Dodge County in the second round of the GHSA Class AA state playoffs.LC (18-11-1) a doubleheader today beginning at 4 p.m. Game three will be played Thursday if necessary.UPDATE: The Lady Trojans were eliminated, losing game one 6-5 and game two 8-0.The Indians (22-6) are the number one seed from Region 3AA. Lamar qualified for round two by eliminating Pepperell here last week in a three-game series played at Aldora Field.The series with Pepperell got off to a shaky start Wednesday. Lamar led 4-0 going into the seventh and final inning of game one but suffered an epic collapse, allowing the Lady Dragons five runs in the top of the seventh.Lamar tied it in the bottom of the inning but the visitors exploded for six runs in the eighth to put it away.The final was 11-7. Lexy Head took the loss for LC. She went eight innings, struck out eight but allowed 11 hits. Cayla Bishop led LC with three hits while Ja’Kyra Shannon had two. Brinkley Yevak had three RBIs for Lamar, doubling in the fourth and blasting a home run in the sixth.The Lady Trojans had an explosion of their own in game two as they routed the visitors 23-7. Lamar led 8-1 after two innings and 10-6 after five before erupting for 13 runs in the sixth to put it away.Head again went the distance on the mound, striking out four and scattering 12 hits.Lamar opened the game with a three-run first inning as Alyssa Maisonet singled home a run and Bailie Pines drove in two more with a triple.LC got five more in the second inning which was highlighted by Maisonet’s three-run triple.The run-rich sixth inning started with a solo homer by Head. Kayla Hinkley drove in a run with a single. Bishop doubled home another run and Aisha Wilcher doubled home two more.Head, Shannon and Hinkley then added single RBIs. Bishop rounded out the big inning with a two-run base hit.Bishop finished with five hits and three RBIs. Maisonet had four hits and drove in four runs. Trinity Fuller added three RBIs for LC. Shannon had three hits.The Wednesday split set up game three drama Thursday but Head took control on the mound and shut out the Lady Dragons. She struck out 10 and allowed only three hits in a 5-0 win.Bishop led LC at the plate. She homered in the third inning, tripled in the fourth and added a single in the sixth. Wilcher managed to steal home in the third inning. Head and Fuller had two hits apiece.Meanwhile, Dodge County made short work of Early County in round one, winning 12-0 and 15-1.
