LC Lightning girls win Rec Rocks tourney

The LC Lightning U14 girls won four straight games Nov. 20-21 in Cumming to claim the championship in their division at the UFA Rec. Rocks tournament.


Ava Bushby scored on a clutch, 30-yard shot with just over a minute left to propel LC to a win over the UFA Reign in round one. Ella Bleu Leverett had two saves in goal for LC in the win.


In round two, the locals topped the UFA Ridgebacks 3-1. Kenzie Smith had two goals for LC while Bushby added one. Makaiya Howard had one assist for the Lightning.


On Sunday morning, Bushby had both goals in a 2-0 win over the UFA Sounders that propelled LC to the title match. Wren Lonberg had an assist on one of the goals.


In the finale Sunday afternoon, Lamar topped the UFA Crew 2-0. Bushby and Nya Brown scored for LC.

Leverett was stellar in the net for the Lightning, recording five saves.


The Lightning finished the season 15-1-1.
