The Lamar Lady Trojans (16-5) are in action here today in the first round of the GHSA Class AA softball playoffs. The locals are Region 5AA champs and a #1 seed. They will host Washington of Atlanta in a best of three series at Aldora Field. The Lady Dogs are 5-10 and the #4 seed from Region 6AA. Game one starts at 3 p.m. with game two to follow. Game three will be played Thursday if needed. UPDATE: LC rolled in game one, winning 19-0 in three innings. Lamar won game two 25-1. It was a week of ups and downs last week for Lamar. They played poorly and lost to archrival Heard County on Senior Night in their last regular season game. In that loss, they lost star catcher Cayla Bishop to a fracture of the hand. LC rebounded, however, to rout Temple and Heard in the region playoffs here over the weekend. The Lady Trojans opened last week on the road at Temple where they routed the Tigers 14-0. LC got five runs in the first inning and six more in the fourth to put the game away. Bailee Pines was on the mound for LC and got the win. She struck out seven and allowed only two hits. Aishja Wilcher and Brinkley Yevak homered in the fourth while Bishop added a double. Yevak had four RBIs. Pines, Britney English and Kelyse Harris had two hits each for LC. Pines had three RBIs while Bishop added two. Wednesday’s senior night contest ended in a 5-4 loss in extra innings. Four errors and other miscues that did not make the scorebook cost Lamar dearly as did the lack of clutch hitting. Yevak went the distance and took the loss despite striking out six and allowing only three hits. Yevak, Pines and English had two hits each. Yevak had two RBIs. Heard had three players who stole at least two bases. The Lady Trojans bounced back Friday at Aldora Field in the first region playoff game as they again routed Temple 16-2. LC got two runs in the first inning, two in the second and then exploded for 12 runs in the fourth to put it away. Pines got the win for LC, striking out five and allowing only four hits. Alyssa Maisonet, Yevak and Wilcher had three hits each to pace LC. Yevak and Ryla Traylor had three RBIs each while English added two. On Saturday, LC faced off with Heard again. This time the region crown was on the line and the Lady Trojans were up to the challenge as they blew out the Braves 14-4. Heard led 3-0 after two and a half innings but the locals erupted for four runs in the third, five in the fourth and five more in the sixth the earn the run rule victory. Yevak was again on the mound for the win. She had three strikeouts and scattered eight hits. Taylor Turner went three for four at the plate for LC. English added two hits.
