LC soccer collects three wins; girls in Top 10

The LC varsity soccer teams were perfect over the past week, winning all three matches played. The Lady Trojans have cracked the scorbord.com Class A, Div. I rankings for the first time as they are #10 in the most recent voting.

On Tuesday, Lamar hosted Jones County and swept both games from the Greyhounds.

The Lady Trojans mercy ruled the visitors in the opener, winning 10-0. Samiya Smith had a hat trick with three goals and dished two assists. Cara Bishop had two goals and four assists. Armani Flewellen had two goals and one assist.

Adding single goals were DeeDee Bowles, Maci-Lauren Lanier and Aniya Barron. Emily McEvers had two assists.

In the nightcap, the Trojans rolled to a 3-1 win. Josh Moore, Caleb Miller and Chip Crawford had goals for LC.

On Friday, the Lamar boys hosted St. George’s Episcopal School. The girls teams did not play.

Miller had a hat trick for LC with three goals.

Joe Davis, Broxton Lanier, JD Banks and Crawford had one goal each.

LC hosts region foe Temple here Friday. Girls action begins at 5:30 p.m.

LCMS SOCCER TEAMS UNDEFEATED:

Lamar County Middle School opened regular season soccer play last week, sweeping four games.

On Monday, the Henderson Tigers of Jackson were in town.

In the first match, the Lady Trojans rolled to a 9-0 win. Harmony Flewellen scored three goals in the first 12 minutes for LC, earning a hat trick. She added a fourth goal in the second half.

M’Kenzie Smith also had a trick with three goals. Scarlett Bryan had a goal and an assist. Addie Swatts had a goal and Scout Woodall collected two assists.

Pitching in single assists were Wren Lonberg, Jenny Beverly and Kelaiah Watson. Keepers Caitlynn Whittaker and Jules Gotell combined for the shoutout.

In the nightcap, the Trojans posted a 2-0 shutout win. Aiden Romero scored off a well-placed corner kick by Kaden Wilson. Mills Callaway got the final goal off an assist from Haydyn Dickerson

On Wednesday, LC welcomed Jones County, which combines two schools for soccer, rolled to big wins.

The Lady Trojans cruised to a 7-1 victory behind two goals from Flewellen. Lonberg had a goal and an assist. Adding single goals were Beverly, Bryan, Smith and Gabby Nail. Woodall had an assist while Whittaker and Gotell had one save apiece.

The Trojans won a shootout in game two. Callaway got LC’s first goal on a perfect through ball from Dickerson and the locals led 1-0 at the half.

The Greyhounds scored early in the second half to tie it. Romero then fired a free kick into the box where it ricocheted off the head of Jayden Doctor and into the goal to give LC a 2-1 lead.

Just a few minutes later, Jones scored to tie it at 2-2.

With under four minutes left, Wilson broke free on a long run and Doctor hit him in stride with a perfectly hit long pass over the top. Wilson juked the keeper, scored and the Trojans held on for a 3-2 win.

Lamar traveled to Ft. Valley Monday. The girls won 10-0 and the boys prevailed 3-0. LCMS welcomes Byron to town today. Girls action gets underway at 5 p.m. at Trojan Field with the boys match to follow.
