LCAC gets teen pregnancy prevention grant

The Lamar County Activity Center received a grant from the Health Promotion Resource Center at Morehouse School of Medicine that aims to prevent teen pregnancy. The program will follow 60 local, low-income 11-12 year olds for five years to track their progress. t will also result in the creation of 18 jobs for the five years it is in place, including a community organizer to serve as a liaison with the families of children in the program. The Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Collaborative will launch in late June with summer programs that will run five to eight hours. ’I’m very proud to have this program here. This model is great for the community and being able to hire so many people is great for our economy,’ said LCAC director Angela Mack. ‘The activity center isn’t just lucky, it’s truly blessed.’
