LCMS Lady Trojans win district championship

Saving their best performance for their last game, the LCMS Lady Trojans shut out Henderson Middle School of Jackson here 4-0 March 25 to win the CGMSAL district soccer championship. LCMS finished the year at 11-0-1 and outscored their opponents 71-3. LCMS is only in its second year of soccer competition. Maci-Lauren Lanier scored first for LC midway through the first half with an accurate shot from the box. As the half ran down, Hayleigh Brock came off the bench and scored a critical goal on a breakaway run to make it 2-0 at intermission. LC put it away with goals in the second half from Samiya Smith and Cara Bishop. Both were power shots the Henderson keeper could not handle. Lady Trojan keeper Aniya Barron was a force in the net, logging three saves including one taken off the foot of Henderson’s best player in the box. ’I could not be more proud of this team. They set a goal at the beginning of the season to bring home a championship and they never lost sight of it. It was an honor to play such a great opponent. Henderson was the reigning champion. We stayed focused and accomplished what we set out to do at the beginning of the season. I believe what sets this team apart is their collective love of the game, respect for each other and great work ethic. They definitely deserve to be champions,’ head coach Kelly Adamson said of her girls. It was the third match between the two district powerhouses LCMS went 2-0-1against last year’s title team. Henderson gave up only 17 goals all season and the Lady Trojans had 12 of those. The team will be honored at the school board meeting April 8 and at the April 9 Rotary Club meeting.
