LCMS Trojans win it all!

The Lamar County Middle School Trojans defeated the Carver Road Eagles Wednesday 20-6 to take the Central Georgia Middle School Athletic League football championship. The game was played at Memorial Stadium in Griffin. The Trojans started strong as Lance Austin returned the opening kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown. Lamar’s attempt at a two-point conversion failed and the Trojans led 6-0. Just over six minutes later, Carver Road scored on a seven-yard run but also failed to convert the PAT when the Trojans blocked the kick. The score was 6-6 at the half. After a hard-fought, scoreless third period, LCMS took a 12-6 lead on a 45-yard touchdown run, again by Lance Austin, with 7:49 left in the fourth. Again the two-point attempt failed. As the Eagles tried to drive for the tie and possible win, the Trojans knocked the ball loose and recovered deep in Eagle territory. With 4:17 left, the Trojans put the game on ice when Lawrence Austin scored from one yard out. Micquayvious Searcy scampered into the endzone for the PAT to make it 20-6. The Trojan defense throttled Carver as they attempted to come down the field but turned the ball over on downs instead. Lamar went into the victory formation and, at the final horn, a huge celebration ensued.
