LCMS Trojans win thriller

The Lamar County Middle School Trojans got one more turnover than their opponent in the waning minutes Wednesday afternoon to eke out a 14-13 playoff win over Carver Road Middle School of Spalding County at Trojan Field Cole Stegall fielded a short CRMS punt on a heads-up play and raced 35 yards into the endzone for Lamar’s first score. That cut a 13-0 Carver lead to 13-6. L.J. Smith hit Chazz McCullough for the two-point PAT to make it 13-8. Late in the game, the teams exchanged what seemed to be a dozen fumbles before LCMS got the last one deep in Eagle territory. Smith scored on a sneak but the two-point PAT failed and Lamar led 14-13. As Carver Road drove late in the game, Stegall made his second big play of the afternoon, picking off an Eagle pass to propel his team to round two of postseason play.
