After considerable push back from residents, a convicted child molester who had been living in the woods near the probation day reporting center off MLK Pkwy. has been evicted from his indigent digs.Mark Alan Jones was moved to a probation offender home in Macon Monday afternoon, according to Capt. Todd Pippin of the Lamar County sheriff’s office.Neighbors of the facility, formerly the Lamar Pre-Release Center, heard the 53-year-old Jones was in the woods some three weeks ago and confronted authorities at the facility who told them Jones was living in a lean-to on the property. They offered those residents no option which included removing Jones from the area.The state-owned site where the center is located consists of 12.65 acres and fronts on both Gordon Road and the bypass. A portion of it is wooded. Residents of the area surmised Jones was living on adjacent property owned by the City of Barnesville.Jones was convicted in Lamar superior court on Feb. 29, 2000 of aggravated child molestation and sentenced to 10 years in prison.The conviction arose out of allegations he fondled the breasts and genitals of ‘“ and performed oral sex on ‘“ a 16-year-old girl. He also was charged with providing his victim with pornography portraying straight and lesbian sex acts.The sex crimes occurred in the Aldora Street area here.
