Local man arrested in Monroe assault

A Lamar County man has been arrested in connection with a Monroe County assault that left the victim in critical condition. The full release from Allison Selman-Willis of the Monroe County sheriff’s office follows: A Barnesville man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after attacking a Monroe County man on August 20, 2011. Clifford Joe Giles, 57, was visiting the victim, Randall Lewis Crook, 66, at his home in Monroe County when an altercation ensued betwen the two men. The preliminary investigation revealed that Giles struck Mr. Crook in the head with an unknown object, causing severe damage. Mr. Crook was transported to the Medical Center of Central Georgia where he remains in critical condition. Giles was denied bond and is being held at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Jail.
