Local man attacked by rabid fox

County commission chairman Jay Matthews reported Tuesday that one of his Fredonia Church Road neighbors was attacked by a rabid fox over the weekend. Dan Tant was attacked in his driveway but managed to fight off and kill the fox which was later confirmed as rabid by health officials. Tant said he has begun treatment, received 15 of the 21 shots of vaccine he must have to ward off rabies and expects to get the last shots tomorrow. Foxes very rarely approach humans unless they are sick with rabies or some other illness. It is rare to see foxes at all during daylight hours. Foxes who approach or stay near humans or residences during daylight hours should be considered dangerous. Those spotting them should call 911. More on this story as it develops.
