Local man pleads guilty to three bank robberies

A Barnesville man entered guilty pleas in U.S. District Court in Macon Thursday to charges stemming from three bank robberies in September, 2017. Clifford Steve Terrell, 44, admitted to robbing BB&T banks in Forsyth, Macon and Columbus. A sentencing date has been set for August 7, 2019. Terrell was arrested at Arbor Trace Apartments at 205 Southland Dr. in Barnesville Sept. 27. 2017. A strike team consisting of officers from the sheriff’s offices in Lamar and Bibb counties, the Barnesville police department and U.S. Marshals Service hit Apt. B5 at the complex and arrested Terrell without incident. Terrell is suspected of handing notes to tellers demanding money at a State Bank & Trust location in Macon Sept. 22 and a BB&T branch in Forsyth on Sept. 5. He was booked into the Bibb County jail after questioning. Bond was set at $11,200 at a first appearance hearing in Macon. He was later linked to the bank job in Columbus. Stains from a money dye pack covered the back seat of Terrell’s ramshackle Toyota Corolla outside the apartment and the jeans he was wearing at the time of his arrest. He claimed the stains on his jeans were barbecue sauce. When he was searched, marshals found the robbery demand note in his pocket.
