Both are choral-orchestral treatments of the famous hymn of the Christian Church Gloria in excelsis deo, ‘Glory to God in the Highest.’ The show is set for Thursday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Griffin Auditorium. Both works have an important connection with youth: Vivaldi composed his Gloria for young singers, and Puccini was himself a youth of 18 when he composed his Messa di Gloria. Fittingly, Griffin Choral Arts is proud to celebrate youth with the exhibit of works of visual art on display in the lobby, created by high school students. Many of these works also pay homage to the concert theme through the student artist’s representations of the concept of ‘Gloria’ in their creations.Griffin Choral Arts is directed by Dr. Stephen Mulder who lives in Barnesville. Other Lamar singers include Gerry Bankston, Charles Dukes, Abigail Morgan, Claire Morgan, John Votaw, Amy Huffer, Susie Whatley and Walter Geiger.Pike County performers include Debby Daniel-Bryant, Alison Kirkland, Bradley Kirkland, Mary Elizabeth Mendenhall, Mark Mendenhall, Emily Rhodes and Betty Bentoski.Additionally, accompanist Cathy Willis works at Dora Cox Realty in Barnesville and is the church organist at First Baptist Church here.Tickets for the concert are $10 and available locally at Goggans Florist or online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com
