Local USDA office not on vast hit list

The United State Department of Agriculture announced plans Monday to close 259 offices, labs and other facilities but the local office will not be impacted. The Lamar USDA Farm Service Agency is located in the area Service Center on Hwy. 41 North. Leonard Neal, FSA public affairs director, confirmed the Lamar office is not on the closure list. Agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack said the cuts will allow USDA to cut its $145 billion budget by about $150 million per year.
