Al Sophianopoulos of Barnesville, who writes under the penname A. J. Symon, is getting rave reviews for his soon-to-be published children’s book ‘Golden Boy’. Renowned publishing house Simon & Schuster will release the book this fall.
The story is about a Golden Retriever turned football star in the South Carolina Lowcountry.
Emma Branch is the brilliant 15-year-old daughter of Wayman, a high school football coach whose team has not won a game in over 10 years and on whom the entire community has turned.
When her retriever Hudson collapses, Emma brews up a serum based on a school science project in hopes of saving him. The next morning, she discovers that Hudson has taken human form. He looks like a teenager but is pure golden retriever – the Golden Boy.
Wayman discerns Hudson’s athletic ability and prowess, recruits him for the football team and he becomes a star, the miracle Wayman needed to save his job and his family. Hudson becomes a celebrity and the whole world wants to know where the mysterious football hero came from.
A publisher’s synopsis reads, “Golden Boy is a modern day fairy tale about the transformative power of unconditional love. And football. Because football is important, too.”
Copies of the book can be pre-ordered now at ajsymon.com. A launch party will be held locally later this year and your pre-ordered book will be your admission and Sophianopoulos will autograph it for you.
“The proceeds from my work will help keep several golden retrievers in the lifestyle to which they’ve become accustomed,” the author noted.
