Lost trees take years to replace

Disaster strikes, and the right first concern is people. When the people begin to recover their homes and lives, the focus can shift to the loss of another Lamar County treasure: thousands and thousands of beautiful trees. Whether valued for lumber, habitat, shade or just because they are grand and lovely, local trees will not be replaced completely for generations. Fire chief Steve Andrews declares the April 28 tornado ‘an ecological disaster for the forests and streams ‘¦the ancient hardwoods will probably never be recovered.’
