Louise Lovejoy Jackson

Mrs. Louise Lovejoy Jackson, age 107, of Barnesville passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 in a Barnesville healthcare facility. Mrs. Jackson was born on Sept. 19,1906, in New Orleans, La., to the late Mr. William Cotter Lovejoy and to the late Mrs. Antionette Magarite Bert Lovejoy. She was a member of the Barnesville First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Jackson graduated from Agnes Scott College in 1927. She started the first Girl Scout Troop in this area around 1934. Mrs. Jackson completed a master’s degree in library science from Emory University in 1958 and was the librarian at Gordon Military College. In 1993 Mrs. Jackson was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year and served as grand marshal in the Buggy Days parade. Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Holland Jackson Sr. Survivors include her two sons, James Holland Jackson Jr. (and Eileen) and William Cotter Jackson (and Davis); her daughter, Nancy Jackson Thomas; four grandchildren, Edward Albert Thilenius (and Debbie), Nancy Elizabeth Graham (and John), James Robert Thilenius (and Michele) and William Jackson Thilenius (and Shelley); and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ariel Thilenius, Grace Louise Graham and Garrett Robert Thilenius. Graveside services for Mrs. Louise Lovejoy Jackson will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 with the Rev. Dana Overton-Garrett officiating in Greenwood Cemetery. Following the graveside service a celebration of life will be held at the Barnesville First United Methodist Church.
