Lula Mae Blackmon

Lula Mae Blackmon passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015. She was born September 24, 1932 to the late Estella Smith-Blackmon and Johnny Clifford Blackmon. She was a 1950 graduate of Booker High School and attended Bethel Baptist Church serving as Sunday school teacher, Sunday school delegate and on the Usher board. While living in Miami, Florida she worked for Carol’s Laundry as a presser for 29 year, joined and attended Mount Carmel Baptist Church and relocated back to Barnesville in 1993. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie James Murphy, aunts and uncles, Classie, Lina, John Will, Wilbert and Fannie Mae, two sisters, Fannie Virginia Walker and Winnie Pearl Crawford, two sons, John Wayne, and Randy. Survivors include two sons, Rev. Dr. Willie J. Murphy Jr., (Winifred) of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Gregory Bernard Murphy, (Deborah) of Griffin; daughter, Jacqueline Troy-Carr of Barnesville; in-laws, Lloyd Murphy (Sharon), Henry Lewis Murphy (Albertine), Ruby Andrews (Clayton), Louise Murphy, Mildred Murphy and Annie B. Murphy; grandchildren, Antonio Bernard Harris, John Wayne Blackmon Jr., Christopher Blackmon, Willie J. Murphy III, Andrae Lamar Murphy, Randy Cornelius Murphy Jr., Brandon Jamal Murphy, Amber Faith Murphy, Latoya Troy, Brittany Campbell, Gregory Bernard Murphy Jr., and Antwyne’ Demetrius Murphy; 18 grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Services were held Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Bethel Baptist Church. Bishop Dr. Willie J. Murphy Jr., Ph.D., officiated. Bentley and Sons Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
