Lynne Witcher Chapman, formerly of Barnesville, died Friday, Sept. 18 in Florida. She was 79.She was born in Savannah, to Thomas Augustus and Marjorie Bickers Witcher. The family moved to Barnesville and her parents taught at Gordon. She had many fond memories of her childhood on and around the campus. She made many lifelong friends there.On April 12, 1955 she married Gene E. Chapman at the First Presbyterian Church in Barnesville. They were faithful sweethearts and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. Although a University of Tennessee graduate, her husband’s alma mater claimed her loyalty and she remained a devoted Georgia Bulldog fan all of her life. Her career as a dedicated dental hygienist spanned over 42 years. She traveled extensively and enjoyed singing. She is remembered by Barnesville friends as singing at various graduation ceremonies and for her solo on the Atlanta TV show ‘Stars of Tomorrow’ talent program. She took great joy in serving her family and did that faithfully all her days. She is survived by her husband, Gene Chapman; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Robert Clair; and daughter, Margie Chapman. She is also survived by her sister, Carole W. Rovang; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and faithful friends. In life and death, Lynne held firmly to her faith in Jesus Christ. One of her favorite Bible verses was John 3:16; ‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.’ She was a faithful witness and a great encouragement to all. She will be greatly missed.A private ceremony was held with interment in Gainesville, Ga.
