Macon man drowns in Monroe County

A 48-year-old Macon man drowned Saturday in the Ocmulgee River in Monroe County. The man has been identified as Richie Arnez Poole, according to Allison Selman-Willis, public information officer for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Here is Selman-Willis’ release: The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a drowning that occurred on the Ocmulgee River today, July 12, 2014, near Juliette. Monroe County dispatchers received a phone call around 2:15 p.m. from a witness reporting a possible drowning. When deputies and EMS arrived the person had been pulled from the river by witnesses. Poole was transported to the Monroe County Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.
