One of the best young athletes on the LC horizon, Makayla Watts (above) is now a two time All-American and a two time Junior Olympian. At the Junior Olympics, she was third in the triathlon (shot put, high jump, 200 meters) and fifth in turbo javelin in the 9-10 age group. At the Georgia Games July 7, she broke the state record for turbo javelin. Watts runs for Georgia Horsepower which is led by LC track coach James Hickenbotham. Christian Sullivan also qualified for the Junior Olympics and competed in the 8U long jump. ‘The most asked question of the week was ‘˜Where is Barnesville, Georgia?’. If they didn’t know before, they do now,’ Hickenbotham said.
