Man blown off pickup has died

A male subject was blown off the back of a truck traveling northbound on Veterans Parkway near Fred’s Saturday afternoon and badly injured. UPDATE: The man has been identified. He died some three hours after the accident of head and other injuries. The black male was riding in the back of an older model pickup attempting to hold down a mattress when the mattress blew off the truck, taking him with it. The incident occurred just after 4 p.m. According to radio traffic, the man was unconscious and bleeding from both ears when he was transported to a medical evacuation chopper that landed in front of Ace Hardware. He was to be flown to a trauma center. UPDATE: Lamar coroner Jim Smith, reached Sunday night, identified the dead man as Johnny ‘Pee Wee’ Zellner, 62, of Barnesville. ”The doctor called to tell me he died. I should have more information Monday,” Smith said.
