A man was pronounced dead in his home Tuesday morning after what appears to be an unintentional, self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim has been identified. Authorities were called to 115 Ashley Oaks Drive about 11:30 a.m. where they found a male subject deceased from a gunshot wound to the chest. Initial indications were the man was cleaning what appeared to be a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol when it went off. The incident remains under investigation. According to tax records, the property is owned by Harrison Mitchell. Coroner Jim Smith has confirmed the dead man is Mitchell who is approximately 58 years old. At 5 p.m., GBI crime scene specialist Todd Crosby was still at the residence working the scene.
