Man seriously injured in crash

A 69-year-old white male was seriously injured in a one-car accident Monday night on Cannafax Road. The victim, identifed as Robert Schaber, was lifeflighted to a trauma center. He suffered a head injury and was unconscious at the scene. The accident occurred in a bad curve near 635 Cannafax Road when the driver lost control and hit a utility pole. He was the only passenger in the vehicle and was partially ejected. The same curve was the scene of a multiple fatality crash some years ago that resulted from young people fleeing a sheriff’s deputy. A tree in the curve still bears the scars of that tragedy. UPDATE: Reports from the hospital December 23 were that Schaber’s injuries, while serious, were not life threatening.
