A middle-aged black man died after being struck by a train in Milner Friday night. Coroner Jim Smith identified the man as Willie Smith. “He was a homeless guy who hung around the car wash in Milner,” Jim Smith said. Willie Smith was walking south on the tracks near Skyler Rd. about 11:30 p.m. when he was hit. “The engineer saw him but there was nothing he could do. Smith had his back to the train and did not turn around until the last second,” the coroner added. Willie Smith was knocked from the tracks and died at the scene. The victim was about 50 but little else is known about him. His body is at Trice Funeral Home.
