Man who drove big rig through cemetery gets five years probation

A Farmville, N.C. man who drove his big rig through O’Neal Cemetery in Barnesville causing considerable damage last year, entered a guilty plea to one count of criminal damage to property April 4 in Lamar superior court. Devonte Montrell Carr was sentenced to five years probation and was banished from the Towaliga Judicial Circuit by Judge Tommy Wilson. Carr must also pay $1873 in restitution. Carr was originally charged with 22 counts of striking a fixed object and 14 counts of criminal damage to property after the Aug. 13, 2018 incident. US Xpress Trucking discovered the damage after reviewing dash cam video from Carr’s rig and utilizing GPS tracking data. Company officials contacted Barnesville police after the discovery. Despite Carr’s plea, the trucking company may still be the target of civil litigation.
