Marion Underwood Sr. obituary

Reverend Marion Underwood Sr. was born on April 6, 1925, in Hawkinsville, Ga. He was the third son born to the late Isaiah and Lucile Underwood. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized and joined Christian Hope Baptist Church in Hawkinsville, Ga. He later joined West Mount Sinai Baptist Church, where he eventually became associate minister. Rev. Underwood departed his earthly life on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012. On January 15, 1949, Rev. Underwood was united in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Mable Wyche Underwood. Their union lasted strong and true for 58 years, until her passing in May 2007. To this loving union four children were born: Marion, Rosalind and the twins, Sheila and Angela. Two of their children, Marion and Sheila, preceded them in death.  He loved his family and friends and touched the lives of so many; but most of all, he loved God who was always the center of his life. His Agape love for everyone was always present in his speech, his spirit and his behavior. You never had a conversation with him that did not include acknowledgement of His Lord and Savior. He enjoyed singing, reciting poetry (which he did fluently) and playing the piano. He will be missed by so many, but he would want us to remember that, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ Philippians 4:13. Rev. Underwood leaves to cherish his many fond memories a wonderful family to include his two daughters, Rosalind (David) Dennis and Angela (Thomas) Ware; daughter-in-law, Edith Underwood; grandchildren, Dean (Sandra) Phillips, Jheneen (Deimene) Walters, Daphne (Tarell) Register, whom he reared as his own, Courtney Ware, Desmond Dennis, Christopher Ware and Corey Ware; great-grandchildren, Daimon, Mikayla, Darien, LaCharity, Destiny, Brianna, Madison and Raven; a devoted sister-in-law, Mary W. Banks; other sisters-in-law, Ruby Underwood and Flossie (Melvin) Woodard; brother-in-law, Frank (Frances) Wyche; a devoted niece, Violet (John) Howard; god-daughter, Shirley M. Farley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends. Funeral services for Rev. Marion Underwood Sr. will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at 3 p.m. at West Mt.
